Mulu article by Hanbury Tenison in Daily Telegraph

A very nice article on Mulu by Robin HANBURY-TENISON was published in the Daily Telegraph, 11 Oct,2014.

Malaysia's Gunung Mulu national park: revisiting one of the most spectacular rainforests on earth.

Robin Hanbury-Tenison was on the first Mulu expedition in 1977, organised by the RGS and lasting 15 months. He published a book, "Mulu, the rain forest".

Mulu's pinnacles on Malaysian banknotes

On 8th November 2000 Malaysia introduced a new RM1 (one Ringgit) currency note - this is the lowest value of the paper money. On the back is a 'collage' of illustrations including a Malaysian kite, the beach, Mount Kinabalu and the pinnacles of Gunung Api in Mulu National Park.

The pinnacles are rather small unfortunately, located at the top right.

Bank Negara Malaysia issued a new series of banknotes on 16 July 2012. Themed 'Distinctively Malaysia', the latest banknotes series draws its inspiration from the country's diverse culture, heritage and nature. The highest value note, RM100, features the pinnacles at Gunung Api, Mulu. They are next to Gunung Kinabalu in Sabah, and actually look as big as the Kinabalu mountain! Both these are World Heritage sites.

Snoopy in Gua Batu Kuda, Mulu

Every time I went to Gua Batu Kuda, Stone Horse Cave, in Mulu, I said hello to Snoopy. Snoopy was a rock formation but it had a real likeness to the cartoon character in Peanuts.
These photos were taken in 1993
Everyone liked to pose as they kissed Snoopy.

Then on one visit in 1996 I was shocked to see that Snoopy was broken. I don't know when it happened. I don't know if it was a natural breakage.

As with Humpty Dumpty, "all the cavers couldn't put Snoopy together again"
